Let it Snow

In her dance recital debut, Karaline performed a routine to “Let it Snow” at the YMCA’s Breakfast for Santa.

127 133

I think she might have had the biggest fan club – 18 people ranging from baby brother to grandparents and everyone in between!

The following week was “watch week” at class.  I know that I am impartial, but I really think Karaline is one of the best at listening and following directions.  She did everything her teacher asked.  Unlike several of the others in her class, she did not run, scream, or do her own thing during class.  She takes her dancing seriously, which I haven’t decided if that is a good thing or not!

She also has the ballet lingo down – which is totally foreign to me – and has been quick to correct me when I call something the wrong name.

Her ballet report card indicates she does a great job and is showing improving dance technique!  We are so proud of her!

.:Stats- 25 lbs – according to Daddy and the bathroom scale, 30 inches long according to mommy’s measuring tape.

.: What You’re Wearing- 12 months, size 4 diapers

.: Firsts- Thanksgiving, pictures with Santa, meeting Uncle Craig

.: From Head To Toe- your hair is blonde and lays so nicely on your head, your cheeks have been getting really red, cute smile, and those lady killer blue eyes

.: Loves- chewing and drooling, pulling off your socks, sitting up, exersaucer, playing with sister, holding your own bottle

.: Dislikes- laying down, being treated like a baby!

.: Eating- loves carrots, peas, peaches, applesauce.  You DO NOT like bananas and the jury is still out on green beans.  You will tolerate sweet potatoes and squash.  You like rice and oatmeal cereals mixed with fruit.  You still like your 8 oz several times throughout the day and you drink steadily from the time we get home from Mardie’s house until bedtime!  We have tried a couple of different sippy cups with apple juice – we are still working on that!

.: Sleeping- you still sleep through the night.  Bedtime varies for you – anywhere between 8 and 10.  Usually you will be sitting on Daddy or Mommy’s lap and just fall asleep sitting straight up.  You do not like to lay back.   We have to rock you sitting straight up until you finally relax and give in to sleep!  You wake up every morning at 7:30!

6 Months – Our Mane Man!

Stats- 21.4 lbs. and 29 inches – we think.  We have our 6 month check up on Wednesday, so I’ll let you know for sure!

.: What You’re Wearing- some 6-9 months, but mostly 12 months.  Size 3 diapers will soon be too small.  You are wearing size 4 overnights at night.

.: Firsts- trying to hold bottle, rolling EVERYWHERE!  No more changing you on the changing table!   2nd tooth on the bottom.

.: From Head To Toe  You have soo much blonde hair.  I call you my Guy Smiley because you are always smiling.   You have been coughing at night, but have no fever or snotty nose, so we are anxious to find out from the Dr. if everything is okay.  We suspect it is a combination of allergies and slobber that is making you congested when you sleep.  You have such a sweet little voice.  You have recently started growling like a bear!

DSC03767

.: Loves- rolling around, sitting up, monkey chew toy, teddy bear, DNA rattle.  You adore your big sister.  She likes to read and sing to you and you love to listen and talk back!

.: Dislikes- 5 – 7:30 p.m.

.: Eating- sweet potatoes, carrots, squash (not your favorite), and bananas.

.: Sleeping- going to bed between 8:30 and 10 p.m. and getting up anywhere between 6:45 and 7:30 a.m.

Wonder Woman & Our Little Monkey

002 008

Carving the Jack o Lantern – 10 points if you can guess who we carved!!

Here we are at the YMCA Halloween Party

006

We got there early, which was awesome because we were the only family participating in the cupcake walk!  Surprisingly,  *wink* *wink*, Karaline and Cody both won!  Even though Cody does have a tooth, Daddy had to do the eating.

089 Karaline’s dance class celebrated with costumes and “bring a friend” week!

We enjoyed Mommy’s day off from school by going to IHOP with Grandma and Paw Paw for “make a spooky face pancakes!”

Trunk or Treat at GUMC was a big success.  It was the first COLD night!  We got to pass out candy and show our Wildcat Pride!

066

And of course, the main event – Trick or Treating.  We had fun going to a few of the houses in our neighborhood.

Let’s Bowl

We took Karaline to the CDS bowling party last weekend.  She had a blast!

222 223

It had been FOREVER since Andy and I had been bowling and the West Acres Bowling alley was great!

I can’t believe that next year, Karaline will be in Kindergarten and all of these activities (bowling, skating, and music programs) that we’ve been doing because they are for Mommy’s school, we will be doing because they are for Karaline!

While at the bowling alley, Karaline was asked to be on a summer T-ball team.  I am not sure Karaline knows anything about T-Ball, but she was so excited!  I hope her enthusiasm continues when she finds out that she will have to wear shorts and not a dress or skirt to participate!

Cody at 5 Months

DSC03809

DSC03810 DSC03812

Stats- 20.2 lbs, 27 inches

What You’re Wearing-  9 month clothes, your little feet are rounded on top so it makes it difficult to find shoes that fit.  Karaline’s feet were the same way, but they flattened out.  So for now, you are wearing 6 – 12 months socks!

Firsts- you got your first tooth this month!  The second one is close to breaking through.  You are chewing on EVERYTHING.  Walter’s Pumpkin Patch, Lord’s Acre, & Trick or Treating at Granny & Great Grandad’s & Roger & Icel’s!

DSC03758 DSC03784

From Head To Toe- your hair is getting thicker.  You are growing lots.  This month you grew more lengthwise than width wise!

Loves- Peek-a-boo, Kid Zone, Drooling, Nursery, Sitting Up like a big boy, monkey blanket & chewy monkey.

Dislikes- swing, being hungry, getting teeth!

Eating- 6 - 8 oz every 4 hours.

Sleeping- bedtime between 8 and 10 p.m., up between 7 and 8 a.m.  You haven’t been taking very good naps.  I think it is because of your teething.

Misc Facts-  You are my Guy Smiley!  You are so happy.  I love to hear you giggle, coo, and talk.  You like it when Karaline sings to you and when we read you stories.  You are getting really good at pulling hair, and when you grab onto us, you don’t let go!

4 months old

.: Stats- We think 20 lbs. and 26 in.  (We’ll know for sure on Friday after the 4 month check up).  2 more pounds and you will have outgrown your infant car carrier!

.: What You’re Wearing- a mixture of 3 – 6 month and 6 – 9 month clothes, size 2 diapers, 3s at night to prevent flooding

.: Firsts- rolling from back to tummy, lots of smiles, you love to goo, burble, and talk to us, grabbing at toys and bringing them to your mouth.  This morning you were using the hanging rings on your gym to try and pull yourself up to sitting.  In your car carrier your try to sit straight up.  I am worried you are going to choke yourself with the straps.  You are going to have a baby six pack and the strongest abs of any baby, ever!

.: From Head To Toe- hair is coming in lighter, eyes are BLUE, everyone says you look like your daddy.  It is hard to argue with that!

.: Loves- monkey blanket toys, hanging toys from gym, sitting up like a big boy.

.: Dislikes-  being hungry, being held like a baby.

.: Eating- 8 oz. first thing in the morning, a couple of bottles at  Mardie’s, and then eating constantly from 5 – 8:30!

.: Sleeping- All night!!

Stop this Train, I Wanna Get OFF!

Yes, I realize it has been a MONTH since I have written on the blog.  If you’ve been anxiously awaiting this latest installment, you need to get a life!  But seriously,  the Scott family has been so busy living life, we’ve had NO TIME to blog about it!

The school year always starts off busy and hectic, but this year seemed especially more so.  After teaming for 4 year with my “work wife”, she was given an amazing opportunity to become a reading specialist.  So, I’ve been adjusting to many new changes at work. I have a wonderful class.  I am so thankful that I have such sweet, good, willing kiddos!  We have also had big schedule changes with the implementation of tier times (don’t get me started on my mixed feelings about this!).  It has all been kind of a headache.  With school starting again it means nights of grading, planning, and preparing.  It seems the paperwork is endless.  Some nights it has seemed like I am drowning in it.

Meanwhile, we have had something nearly every day: PTO meetings, Sunday school, church, Kristina’s quasi-commitment to exercise at the Y, WOW, food team meetings, Lord’s Acre meetings, Karaline’s Dance Academy class, birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese036 , and listening to Jeanette Walls (author of Glass Castle and Half Broke Horses – you gotta read these) in the middle of a hail storm.  Oh yea, let’s now forget about the hail storm – softball sized beauties requiring roof repairs, but according to USAA, not enough to warrant a new roof, therefore putting us at the bottom of every company’s to do list.   Thankfully neither of our vehicles suffered any damage.  AND in the midst of all of this, Cody’s formula was RECALLED!!  Yes, that’s right, recalled.  Sam’s gave us refunds on the 3 canisters we had bought (2 of which were nearly empty – 1 from our house and 1 at Mardie’s and 1 never opened).  He seems no worse for the wear.  Besides, bug parts, which are supposedly the culprit behind the recall are protein, right?  I mean, my growing boy could use the added vitamins, right?   If I don’t laugh about it, I’d totally cry!

Every weekend has been jammed packed, too. Family pictures, 0093 Labor Day was spent at Kelly & Sam’s clearing trees from their backyard, Cropaganza weekend with the girlsganza 10 , Bluegrass weekend,051

044

103 and here we are at the end of September!   With being gone every weekend the housework and laundry has really been piling up.

Fast forward to this weekend – Andy is at inventory, so I am a work wido    w.  Friday night was spent doing whatever Karaline wanted – McDonalds, Ben & Jerrys, and the new Tinkerbell movie (thank you God that it was something CHEAP and EASY).

Today we had dance class (I am so proud that she is such a good listener in class and is independent enough to go into class like a big girl.  When you see her next to some of the other girls who are crying, not listening, or playing instead of dancing, it really makes a mommy proud!)  and then it was time to tackle our FILTHY DISGUSTING house.  I am happy to say that Karaline was a HUGE help.  She totally earned her new polly pocket and I am no longer completely disgusted by the grime that was lurking in every corner.  Okay, I have to confess we didn’t totally get finished.  I saved cleaning the shower for Andy or at least until I go and buy a scum buster.  DAMN you hard water stains!!  I absolutely loathe cleaning the house.   If anyone needs a Christmas idea a Merry Maid would be awesome and much appreciated.   I am so lucky that Andy helps as much as he does.  With both of us working and being so busy, it is a wonder that we ever have a clean dish or article of clothing.  Speaking of clean clothes…my well meaning husband is great about washing laundry and drying it,but apparently that is where the process ends for him.  So consequently, there were baskets of unfolded clothes in nearly every room of our house.   Just the sight of those little buggers was stressing me out.  Like silent little billboards taunting me.  I had to resist the urge not to throw them all in a bag and drive them over to the Clothes Closet instead of folding them!

Dinner tonight – Pizza Hut take out and another viewing of Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue.  Hopefully when Andy gets home we’ll watch one of the Nextflix movies that have been sitting on top of the tv for the last 6 weeks.

October doesn’t look to be slowing down any with Fall Festival, Lord’s Acre, our annual chili supper, and HALLOWEEN!  Catch us if you can!

Crown Uptown

Last Saturday Karaline and I went to our last Crown Uptown Children’s show of the season, Jack and the Beanstalk.  Daddy had to work, so we were able to take a friend with us.  Grandma and PawPaw came to hang out with Cody and we girls had a fun time at the theatre.  Here they are with Jack himself!

069

Karaline was a little worried at first that the giant was going to be scary, but when he finally made his appearance, she looked at me and laughed!

First Day of School

059

Here we are ready for a new school year!  It is hard to believe that this time next year Karaline will be coming to school with Mommy as a big Kindergartner!  She is so ready!  I am so grateful that Mardie has done such an awesome job preparing her with prek skills.  During this first week Karaline has been practicing writing her last name – those Ss and Cs are pesky with those curvy lines and her phone number.  Tonight Karaline, Daddy, and Cody brought dinner up to school so I could attempt to catch up on that dreaded paper work that always seems to stack up during the first week of school.  I am so grateful that Andy is so understanding and doesn’t mind being a work widow for a few weeks out of the year.

3 Months

 075 071

Stats:  Going to the store tomorrow to buy a scale.  26 inches long.  At this rate, Cody’s going to be taller than his mommy when he goes to Kindergarten!

What He’s Wearing:  We’ve been slowing integrating the 3 – 6 month clothes into the wardrobe, and the pile of outgrown 0 – 3s is growing almost as fast as he is!  Can’t wait to find out what Baby Barrett is going to be so that we can box up the clothes for him or give them to good will if it’s a her!  Size 1-2 diapers are kind of a joke, but we are finishing them up because we bought in bulk at Sam’s!  I have 2s at the ready for as soon as the last 1-2 is gone!

Firsts- starting to “talk” and coo.  I think he definitely recognizes familiar faces.  Cody had his first day of “school” at Mardie’s house on August 10 when mommy went to orientation.  He is just as easy for her as he is for Mommy and Daddy!  I think Karaline is glad to have her brother there, too.

From Head To Toe- brownish hair, improving complexion, if it weren’t for those pesky fingernails causing the occasional scratch, it would be perfect!  Cody has his daddy’s dreamy blue eyes.  He is doing a good job of holding his head up and likes to be “up”.

Loves- pretty much everything!  Swing, car rides, bath, gym, Kid Zone, church, and “watching” Mickey Mouse with Sister.

Dislikes- being hungry

Eating- 6 - 8 oz every 4 hours.  He tends to forget to eat during the day if he is in the middle of a good nap and then really stores up the groceries for overnight sleep.  It seems like he eats constantly from about 6 – 8 p.m.  I’m not complaining because this gives us some good quality time together.

Sleeping- Cody is a good little sleeper.  He’s been taking a huge afternoon nap at Mardie’s, being awake during the evening so he can spend time with his Mommy and Daddy after work, and then snoozing again by about 9 or 9:30.  He is sleeping through the night until about 6:45 or 7 a.m. which is about perfect for school days.

Misc. Facts – Cody & Karaline had their “Favorite Face” pictures taken at Trey Allen’s this month.  I can’t wait to pick ‘em up on the 26th!  Sunday will be our first family pics as a family of 4!

July 19

On Monday Andy & I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary.  We had already celebrated back in June by going to the Michael Buble concert.  So we had a relaxing evening at home.  Andy made yummy carne asada, pico de gallo, and guacamole and we watched When in Rome (I give it 5 stars, Andy slept through most of it, so I guess he gave it 4 snores!).

 048049

In 7 years of marriage we have lived in our house for 6 years, owned 5 vehicles, been to Disney World 4 times, attended 3 Michael Buble concerts, had 2 beautiful children, and had 1 great marriage!  I can’t wait to see what the next 7 years bring!

048049

Monday was also Cody’s 2 month birthday!  At his 2 month check up on Tuesday he weighed in at 13 lbs. 8 oz and measured 24 inches long.  After being measured, I told him that at this rate he will soon be able to ride Space Mountain!

I blognapped this next part from my awesome friend (Thanks T!) because I thought it was such a great idea!

What he’s wearing – Size 1 diapers, 0 – 3 month clothes if it buttons all the way up or has a large neck hole, if not it is pretty much like putting a straight jacket on an octopus.

Firsts – 4th of July, movie “Toy Story 3”, sleeping through the night (10 p.m. – 5/6ish) thanks in part to his “Sleepy Time” formula.  Thank you Enfamil!

From Head to Toe – dr. said she heard a little “clicking” in your hip,but nothing to be worried about (yet) and that most times this goes away as you grow and start to be active.

Loves -  his swing, music, car rides, animal gym, and his bath.   I am amazed at how easy going and laid back he is (he is his daddy’s son!).

Dislikes- being hungry (he is his mommy’s boy, too you know!).

Eating-  Similac formula 6 oz every 4 hours, Enfamil “Sleep Time” in his 8:00 p.m. bottle.  We find 2 parts sleepy time and 1 part regular is the right amount.

Mistakes Were Made

Okay, I have been procrastinating with this post because it makes me sad.  Later this month my awesome friend, Teresa, is moving far far away.  I have been thinking a lot lately about my friendships both past and present and it makes me want to be a better friend in the future.

Past:  I think about so many friends I had growing up.  Friends from elementary school who I no longer felt popular enough around when we reached middle school and cut loose.  Middle school friends who stretched into high school friends who I drifted apart from as graduation came close and eventually lost touch with when I went to college.  Lots of these people are my “friends” on facebook, but that’s not exactly a meaningful relationship.  I would love to think that losing touch with these people wasn’t entirely my fault, but I know I made lots of mistakes, got too busy, didn’t make the effort, was seen as too judgmental. College friends who I swore I would keep in touch with and would be my friends forever.  I failed miserably.

Present: My closest friends now fall into one of 2 categories – my college girlfriends or girls met through them, and my work friends.  What is amazing about my college girlfriends is that they have been my friends longer than anyone else – 13 years to be exact.  They have seen me at my worst (boy drama and school stress) and been there for the best (marrying Andy, having Karaline, & Cody).  We’ve shared the good (Cropaganza, baby showers, weddings, bachelorette parties) and the bad (losing those we love, pregnancy related scares).  Now that one of them is moving away, it makes me realize how many mistakes I’ve made in my past friendships and pray to God that I don’t repeat them.  Jen & Teresa - You both have seen me in the middle of all sorts of crazy and loved me anyway.  Thank you for always believing in me, seeing the best in me, and loving me unconditionally. Mandy & Deb – I love that Jen has brought you in to our circle of friends.  My life is better and more fun with you two in it.

Work friends are easy to stay in touch with, I mean you see them everyday, but move to a different school, and even those friendships have changed and become distant.  I watch myself pull away from those people every time.  I’ve never been great at geography and apparently that also effects my ability to be a good friend.

Future:  I am determined not to let that happen again.  Teresa – your move has made me realize the mistakes I’ve made and vow not to let it happen again.  I will keep in touch, I will keep up with this blog and stalk yours.  Andy and I will come to Phoenix next summer to see you.  I will be anxiously waiting for you to come home to Kansas in 5 years or less!

Happy 4th of July

 DSC03271DSC03252

Hope you all had a marvelous 4th of July.  I know the Scott/Magnusson/Barretts did!  Kelly and Sam hosted a wonderfully fun time in Emporia despite the monsoon like conditions.  Not only were the burgers yummy thanks to Grill Master Sam, but everyone loved “toss balls”!

  DSC03297 DSC03302

For those of you not familiar with “toss balls” as Karaline calls it, it is a highly addictive game otherwise knows as ladder golf.  Sam built this set after playing at a bachelor party.  Andy is hoping to get a set for Christmas (hint hint).  For those of you attending the back to school fiesta in August, we have already asked Sam to bring his set, so be ready!!

Kelly and I are working on making it more aerobic – ask us about our signature step/hop.

We spent the night and enjoyed a trip to The Sweet Granada –  www.sweetgranada.com and Pizza Ranch!  On a personal note – thank you GOD that these 2 places were not open when I was in school there or 1.  I never would have left Emporia and 2.  I would be bigger than a barn!

To prepare for this fun filled weekend Karaline and I made flag cookies.  I now know why mom HATED making these cookies.  I seriously think there is a flaw with the recipe.  The dough just did not look right when I mixed ‘em up, so I added some more flour.  They tasted fine and looked cute, but disintegrated when you looked at them.  It was kind of like eating cookie dust.  Better luck next year.

Toy Story 3

Grandma, Paw Paw, Aunt Kelly, Uncle Sam, and The Scotts went to Toy Story 3 last night. We had a great time seeing the movie in 3D, but FYI, the glasses do fog up when you cry. Yes, I cried at Toy Story 3. I seem to be on quite a Disney induced sob fest recently. With Up it was the scrapbook and the presentation of the scout badge, Princess and the Frog brought with it Ray and Evangeline - tell me you didn't tear up, and now Andy going off to college and parting with toys who we have come to think of as friends.

Karaline loved it although I thought she was going to cry when they revealed that Bo Peep was no longer with the toys and there were a couple of intense moments that she spent on Aunt Kelly's lap. Her favorite new character - Buttercup.

Cody slept through most of the movie except when he was eating a 6 oz dinner. I think he liked Rex the best.

I'm pretty sure Andy enjoyed Workout Barbie but as for me, my heart belongs to Mr. Pricklepants!
