Cody’s First Field Trip

The kids at Tiny Toes Daycare took a trip to the local fire station this week.

We were lucky that the Converse “fire” shoes Uncle Craig gave Cody when he was first born are now the perfect size!

Walter’s Pumpkin Patch

Our annual trip to Walter’s Pumpkin Patch in Burns, Kansas did not disappoint.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  This year we even convinced Aunt Kelly, Uncle Sam, & Baby B to join us.  And Grandma and Paw Paw were eager to come along, too.

Everyone in the whole family loves this patch.  There is so much for everyone to do.  Kristina, Paw Paw, and all the kids teeter tottered (Kelly has threatened to share the video on you tube) and nearly everyone took a turn on the Boo Hill slide.

Of course, Andy showed off on the jumping pillow and spider web and has been complaining that he broke/sprain/injured his toe ever since.  Tricycle rides for all ages were enjoyed and Kelly and Sam did a great job Chuckin’ Pumpkins.

No trip to the patch would be complete without a hayrack ride and pumpkin pickin’.

So much for just a couple!

We finished off the day with a late dinner of some yummy Mexican food in El Dorado, not sure if it is all that “patchy”, but it has become our Patch Day tradition!

The following weekend, I was the proud winner of this AWESOME bench at our Lord’s Acre auction which goes super well with our fabulous picks from the patch.

The bench has changeable characters for each season.  I also have the snowman, but if you need a Christmas idea, there are many other characters available at the craft shop on Main Street in Goddard (HINT HINT ANDY!!!).

You Know You’ve Been to Too Many Disney Parades When…

You are sitting at your town’s Fall Festival parade enjoying the honor guard, marching band, and local civic organization floats, and your 5 year old (who has now been to both Disney World and Disney Land) leans over and asks, “When will it be characters we know?”  To which I have to tell her, “Well… Mommy actually does know many of these characters.”  I don’t think she was impressed.

However, we did get FREE candy at this parade and a soda for a dollar unlike the $3.00 soda and $3.00 Mickey on a Stick we have to buy at a Disney Parade!

In other parade related news, Cody is hoping to be a Shriner.  With his love of hats and motorized vehicles, he is sure to be an asset to the group.  It was even more perfect that one of the cars had a personalized “Code Man” license plate.  Sadly, I was not quick enough with the camera to catch it!

Eat it or Wear It?

The title says it all.

A Soggy Celebration

This was the 40th anniversary for the Walnut Valley Festival.  The festival holds lots of special memories for our family.  Andy proposed to Kristina at Stage 1 in 2002 and Kristina surprised Andy with the news that she was pregnant in 2009.  Fill in the other years will lots of festival fun, food, and friends!

Sadly, this was not one of our best years.   The cool, colder, arctic like temperatures froze some of us (Karaline, Cody, and Kristina) out by early afternoon on Friday, and the showers, rain, monsoonlike downpour on Saturday delayed our arrival at the festival.  Then, Saturday night, we decided to high tail it out of the fairgrounds when the tornado warning was announced instead of risking the stampede that was bound to happen when everyone attempted to take shelter under the grandstand.  By Sunday, the fairgrounds were a giant mud pit, and thus our festival was not our most festive ever.

As you can see from the pictures above, there will still some enjoyable moments including wagon rides, cozy snuggles under blankets, corn stealing (by Cody), biscuits & gravy, and some general clowning around.

Here is hoping 41 is drier and warmer!
