You would have thought with the entire summer “off” that I would have been great at blogging and keeping everyone updated on the Scott Family. Somehow, despite good intentions, this did not happen!!
In June, Mom, Dad, Karaline, Cody, and I took off on a road trip to visit Jacob in Indiana. On the way there and on the way back we stopped in St. Louis where we visited The Arch, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, Grant’s Farm, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, The Magic House, The City Museum, Union Station, the Butterfly House, and oh yes! Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. (We might have been slightly obsessed with this delicious confection!).
We had a great time visiting Jacob in his natural habitat. We explored the IU campus, downtown Bloomington, and ate at some of Jacob’s favorite restaurants, spent some relaxing time at the Holiday Inn pool, and enjoyed a nature walk on the walking trail.
In July, Kristina attended the Close to My Heart National Convention. Since it just so happened that it was being held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California, we decided to make a family vacation out of it. We flew to California (Cody’s first plane trip) a few days prior to the convention and took in many fun filled hours at the Disneyland Park and California Adventure. At the end of the week while Kristina attended the creative and business classes, Andy and the kids returned to the parks to play and made good use of the hotel pool.
The day after we returned from California, Kristina took off for the east coast and the Mickelson Exxon Mobil Teacher’s Academy. An all expense paid conference which focused on teaching math and science to students in grades 3 – 5. Over 2,500 teachers from across the country applied for this academy, and I was one of 200 lucky teachers selected for the honor. Here I am with some of my new bestest teacher friends.
The conference was held at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. My hotel room looked out over the Hudson where I had a view of the Statue of Liberty!
The conference was an amazing experience and we were only a quick PATH ride away from New York City. I made some wonderful friends who I ventured into the city with. We went to the Empire State Building, ate dinner one night in Little Italy, and went shopping in China Town. On our 1/2 day of the conference, a group of us went took the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. Andy came for the weekend following the conference so that we could do some site seeing. We went to Times Square, The Top of the Rock, the NBC Studio Tour, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, The Museum of Natural History, rode a double decker site seeing bus and saw a TON of the city, went to Ground Zero, St. Paul’s Chapel, the 9/11 memorial preview site, saw The Lion King on Broadway, took a carriage ride in Central Park, ate at Peanut Butter & Co., Carnegie Deli, and Junior’s Cheesecake, plus went shopping (or at least window shopping) at FAO Schwartz, American Girl, and Tiffany & Co. It was a whirlwind experience, but one I am so grateful I got to do!
